Tapping Together: Why Try Group Tapping?

What is group tapping, and can you benefit from tapping with others?

EFT tapping doesn’t have to be a solitary process. Group tapping enables you to work on your own issues alongside others, while benefiting from a shared tapping experience. In this article, we’ll explore how it works and why tapping together might be worth trying.

What Is Group EFT Tapping?

Group EFT tapping is a way to experience Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) alongside other people. Rather than working one to one with a practitioner, you join a small group where everyone has the opportunity to tap on their own emotions and challenges.

Sessions can take place online, making it easier to participate from the comfort of your own home. You can join with a friend or family member, or book on your own and meet others who are also looking for support.

Everyone may come to a session with different concerns, but many of us experience similar emotions. Stress, anxiety, self-doubt, money worries and limiting beliefs are just some of the challenges that can bring people together.

What Are Borrowing Benefits?

One of the interesting aspects of group tapping is something known as Borrowing Benefits, a term introduced by EFT founder Gary Craig.

The idea is simple. While one person works through an issue with the guidance of a practitioner, the other participants tap along, using the same words and following the same process. Even when someone else is working on their issue, you may find that tapping along helps you with your own.

You might wonder how this works, but tapping along with someone else can help you with your own issues, too. Even if your situations are different, you may recognise some of the same feelings. For example, hearing someone talk about their fear of making a mistake might bring up your own self-doubt. As you tap along, you may find that the way you feel about something in your own life has shifted.

Everyone responds differently, and there is no guarantee that you will experience a shift. However, tapping along with someone else can offer an opportunity to explore your own feelings in an unexpected way.

5 Benefits of Group Tapping

1. A More Affordable Way to Experience EFT

Individual EFT sessions can be valuable, but they may not fit everyone’s budget.

Group tapping offers a more affordable way to experience EFT with practitioner guidance. It allows you to make time for your emotional wellbeing without necessarily committing to the cost of one-to-one sessions.

2. Realising You’re Not Alone

When you are struggling with something, it can be easy to feel as though you are the only person who feels this way.

Listening to others talk about their challenges can remind you that emotions such as anxiety, self-doubt and fear are part of the human experience. You may recognise parts of your own story in someone else’s experience, even when your circumstances are very different.

This can offer a different perspective on your own struggles and help you feel less alone.

3. Working on Your Own Issues While Tapping With Others

You don’t necessarily have to be the person speaking for a group tapping session to be relevant to you.

As you tap along with someone else, you can pay attention to your own thoughts, feelings and physical responses. You might notice that certain words resonate with you or bring up an emotion you hadn’t fully acknowledged.

This is one way Borrowing Benefits may come into play. Someone else’s tapping process can give you a starting point for exploring what is happening for you.

4. Gaining a Fresh Perspective

Hearing how other people approach their difficulties can sometimes help you look at your own situation differently.

You may recognise a pattern you hadn’t noticed before or realise that a feeling you have been struggling with is more common than you thought.

You don’t need to have the same problem as another participant to take something useful away from their experience.

5. Making EFT Part of Your Routine

Like any personal practice, EFT can take time to become a regular habit.

Attending group sessions can give you a dedicated space to pause, check in with yourself and work through some of the emotions you are carrying. Having a session to attend can also help you make time for tapping when everyday life gets busy.

Over time, regular practice may help you become more familiar with the process and more confident about using EFT for yourself.

What Can You Work on During Group Tapping?

Group tapping can be used to explore a range of everyday emotional challenges, including:

  • Stress and feeling overwhelmed

  • Anxiety and overthinking

  • Self-doubt and a fear of making mistakes

  • Money worries and limiting beliefs

  • Feeling stuck or lacking confidence

You don’t always need to share the details of your personal situation to participate. Depending on the session, you may be able to tap along and focus on what comes up for you privately.

Group sessions are generally best suited to themes that participants can comfortably explore in that setting. If you are dealing with deeply distressing experiences or need more individual attention, one-to-one support may be more appropriate.

Is Group Tapping Right for You?

Group tapping can be a good option if you would like to experience EFT in a supportive setting without the cost of an individual session.

It can also be a useful place to start if you are new to EFT and aren’t sure whether it is right for you. If tapping on your own feels a little daunting, joining a small group can give you the chance to try it in a supportive setting, with guidance along the way.

You don’t need to know exactly what to say or have experience with tapping before you join. You can follow the practitioner’s guidance, tap along and see how the experience feels for you.

And if you are already familiar with EFT, group sessions can offer another way to practise, explore your emotions and learn from other people’s experiences.
